Chemistry and Biochemistry Club Activities

The Chemistry and Biochemistry Club has been active at Mount Holyoke since Spring 2017. The Club helps to organize various activities for the students who are part of the two programs, as well as bring in outside speakers to talk about how they have used their degrees in the workplace. If you are interested in learning more about the club, please reach out to Jon (club advisor), and he will put you in contact with the current board.

In Fall 2020, the club invited an alum, Jenna Alimberti of the Worcester Police Department, to give a webinar on her path from Mount Holyoke to working in a career in Forensic Science.

In Spring 2020, the club hosted the Program-in-a-Box, themed "The Future of Food". In addition, the club invited two alumni, Karrie Radloff and Charlene Stern, to participate in a panel discussing their paths after earning a degree from MHC. More info on the panel can be found on this flyer.

In Fall 2019, the club sponsored a viewing of "Poisoned Water", a documentary on the Flint, MI water crisis. In addition, the club hosted a tie-dye event for members, and electrochemically created a patina coating on pennies for National Chemistry Week.

The Fall ACS Program in a Box was held on 10/24/17, the day after Mole Day. This PiB's theme was "Chemistry Rocks!", and it covered the chemistry of rocks, minerals and the environment. We had several attendees, including a faculty member from the Geology department! Who says that Chemistry isn't interdisciplinary?

An ACS Program in a Box (PiB) was hosted on campus in February 2017 by Mount Holyoke's Chem Club. The topic of the evening was "Chemistry of Sports: Smarter, Safer, Faster", and students learned about materials chemistry for improved safety and performance, as well as using analytical chemistry to detect doping agents and other performance enhancers, both known and unknown.
