November 2022:
Alexander Minnick
Mount Aloysius College Alumnus
Education
I have a Bachelors in history from Mount Aloysius and am working on my Masters in public history from SNHU.
Describe your research to a general audience.
I dove into the stories that made up the Second World War in the Pacific to create a cohesive narrative.
What do you enjoy about research?
Research allows me to find information that has not been readily discussed before. It's the rediscovery of something that has happened.
What would you like to share with the MAC community?
History has been my passion for decades and I enjoy discussing it. I find that the best way to tell history, so that people will remember it, is by telling stories about the events. History is not just facts and numbers; it can be discussed in ways that bring in more people.
Alex will share his research in a lecture
November 17th at 3:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall
THROUGH THE PACIFIC WAR, ONE STORY AT A TIME
This lecture is on the war in the Pacific from 1937-1945. It will include war accounts with an emphasis on Sino-Japanese and US-Japanese actions. These stories include, but are not limited to, the Rape of Nanking, Medal of Honor recipient Mitchell Paige, the firebombings of Japan, etc. This theatre of war was filled with horror, massive bloodshed, and ritual suicides, but it was also filled with inspiration, honor, and sacrifice. These stories have come to define this theatre, for without these stories, there would be nothing to discuss. You will walk away having learned some amazing information about the war in the Pacific.
Thank you Alexander for sharing your research!
