Orientation Leaders (OLs)
Each year the Student Activities Department selects a group of mature and dedicated undergraduate leaders to assist with implementing orientation programs throughout the year. In this capacity, Orientation Leaders (OLs) serve as peer mentors and resources to new students and guests attending orientation programs. Orientation Leaders are responsible for knowledge about the college, which is acquired through training and experience, and they must be sincerely interested and skillful in sharing this knowledge with new students and guests.
Selection to the position of Orientation Leader is both a unique honor and a rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth. Recognized by college administration and faculty for their worthy assistance, OLs fulfill the mission of orientation through their strong commitment to aid the students and families in their adjustments and transition to Mount Aloysius. As a vital member of this dynamic team, Orientation Leaders enjoy a memorable experience while providing a valuable service to the College.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis beginning Wednesday, February 5th through Friday, February 28th. Applicants will be contacted for individual interviews following submission of application and review of materials. Only qualified applicants will be interviewed.
To qualify, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater, not be on academic probation, and be in "good standing" with the college regarding all judicial and student conduct matters.
If offered the position, Orientation Leaders will be a required to attend training in April (dates/time TBD).
Orientation Leaders must be able to come back to campus on:
*Tue. June 17th - Fri. June 20th (NSO)
*Wed. June 25th - Sat. June 28th (NSO)
Housing and meals will be provided.
During the summer, you will have responsibilities that can be completed virtually (via Google Meet, email, phone, Canvas NSO course, etc.). OLs will be expected back to campus to help with new student move in and Welcome Weekend events.
Compensation includes:
Housing and meals during training and orientation.
Orientation apparel.
Early move-in in August.
Student worker hourly rate for all hours works for NSO training and events, summer duties, fall move-in duties, and Welcome Weekend.

Meet the 2025-2026 Orientation Leaders
Noah Bowden
Year: Junior
Major: B.A. Criminology with a concentration in Forensic Investigations and a Certificate in Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy
Interests: I have many interests and am the President of two clubs on campus. I also enjoy investigating criminal cases and spending time with friends and family.
Fun Fact: I am left handed, I suppose that is pretty fun!
I am an Orientation Leader because: I love to help out incoming freshmen students navigate some of the difficulties of college. I also like to be there for people who may not know who to turn to when in need of help.
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is: Always be yourself, and get involved on campus and make connections, these connections will make college a great experience!
Brooklyn Frantz

Major: Ultrasonography
Interests: I enjoy watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix, going on road trips, and spending time with the people I love.
Fun Fact: I enjoy photography.
I am an Orientation Leader because: I am an orientation leader because I enjoy being with people, I love being able to help when people need it!
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is: Pick morning classes always, if you have the chance, and get to know your professors.
Maliah Hassler

Major: Nursing 2+2
Interests: I love nature, working out, reading, going to church, and hanging out with my family and friends.
Fun Fact: I was a dancer for 13 years
I am an Orientation Leader because: I want to be a role model and help ease the transition. It can be an uncertain time, but one kind and helpful person can really make a difference. I want to be that person.
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is: Advocate for yourself and don’t stress over the little things.
Trinity Henry

Major: Nursing 3.5 BSN
Interests: Working and hanging out with my fiance.
Fun Fact: I did gymnastics for eight years.
I am an Orientation Leader because: I want to help incoming freshmen acclimate to the college easier. I want to be someone that they can rely on and go to if they need anything.
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is: Be yourself and don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone, you might surprise yourself!

Interests: Hiking, going to the gym, hunting, fishing, going to coffee shops
Fun Fact: I like to be in lively environments when I do schoolwork instead of quiet spaces.
I am an Orientation Leader because: I remember when I was a freshman and was scared of the unknown of college. Having someone there to help guide you makes a huge difference.
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is: To immediately ask questions when you do not understand something in the beginning. If you wait until the end to ask for help, it can be more difficult to solve.

Major: Physical Therapist Assistant (BIOL 2+2)
Interests: Being outside and staying active.
I am an Orientation Leader because: I decided I wanted to be an orientation leader because I was impacted by my orientation leader and they made me want to get more involved on campus. I want to make that same impact on incoming students.
One piece of advice I have for incoming students: Advice that I would like to give the incoming students is to get involved and make friends. Everyone is very nice on campus and it makes your college experiences easier and more enjoyable.

Major: Early Childhood Education
Interests: I enjoy softball, hanging out with friends, nature, and working out.
Fun Fact: I am a part of the softball team at the Mount.
I am an Orientation Leader because: I want to make a positive impact on incoming students by being a role model and providing guidance during their transition into college.
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is: Get involved on campus and make friends.

Major: Communication Studies
Interests: I am interested in sports, mainly soccer, as well as literature, art and poetry.
Fun Fact: I spent most of my time in high school in crutches because of soccer injuries.
I am an Orientation Leader because: I like to meet new people and help people makes me happy. Likewise, I love to make people comfortable while the adapt to college life.
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is: Be yourself and make as many connections as you can on campus.

Interests: I enjoy being outdoors.
Fun Fact: I enjoy riding side by sides and dirt bikes.
I am an Orientation Leader because: I want to help incoming students feel welcome and to not be afraid to ask for help when needed!
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is: Allow yourself to adjust to the new environment. We have all been in the same shoes as you are and it’s extremely nerve racking but the friends you make up here will become your study buddies, a good friend, etc.

Interests: I like to cook, knit, play with my cat (Juno), and being part of the Cyber Defense League.
Fun Fact: I am the Co-President of the Wii Sports Club on campus.
I am an Orientation Leader because: I am excited to be an orientation leader because I love connecting with new people and helping them feel welcomed and supported as they start this new chapter in their lives. Starting college can be overwhelming, and I want to be a friendly, familiar face that helps incoming students feel confident, included, and excited to be part of our community. I’m passionate about my experience at Mount Aloysius, and I’d be proud to share what I’ve learned—both academically and socially—so that others can hit the ground running. Being an orientation leader is a chance to give back, build leadership skills, and create an awesome first impression that sets the tone for someone's entire college journey.
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is: Try to be social, make lots of friends, and remember this is a chance to "re-make" yourself and be who you want to be.

Mission
The mission of the comprehensive orientation program is to assist new students in making a successful transition, academically and socially, into the College community of learners by engaging them in the culture of the College through the promotion of the fundamental values of Mount Aloysius College including justice, hospitality, mercy, service, and leadership. The College understands families and loved ones are of central importance to new students; as such, the orientation mission also emphasizes the need to educate parents and families about the Mount Aloysius community and seeks to facilitate the development of an appropriate relationship between family members and College constituents. At Mount Aloysius, orientation also provides an opportunity for current students to engage in leadership, community building, and character development through involvement in the Orientation Leader Program. Orientation Leaders effectively work closely with new students to educate them about the College and act as valuable resources for new students from the time they matriculate through the first semester.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is a summary of significant expectations for which Orientation Leaders are responsible:
Training
Attend and actively participate in all Orientation Leader training meetings in the spring and summer.
Complete all training assignments and tasks.
Assistance to Students and Parents
Welcome new students and parents to the College and assist them in the initial orientation registration and check-in.
Develop a rapport with new students and their guests, especially those in the leader’s group.
Be constantly accessible and willing to assist with any information needs of students and parents throughout each orientation session, including evening hours/events.
Prepare and conduct well-organized small group meetings for new students and parents.
Prepare and deliver a presentation outlining personal experiences at Mount Aloysius.
Promote college services, organizations, activities, and affiliates in an objective unbiased manner
Administrative Responsibilities
Attend all scheduled staff meetings.
Assist with planning and implementation of Welcome Week.
Efficiently complete all logistical tasks as requested by the Director to ensure the orientation program proceeds smoothly and effectively.
Maintain regular communication with supervisors and discuss with them all situations that warrant their attention.
Take initiative with unanticipated tasks or problems.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
