Bonjour! ¡Hola!
My name is Sara True, and I am currently in the Masters of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching at Michigan State University. I received my BA in secondary education with an emphasis in French teaching at the University of Northern Iowa in 2000. Although I am also certified to teach high school mathematics and K-12 gifted and talented, I wanted to further my language studies to improve my chances of finding language teaching positions. In 2013, I started taking Spanish courses through Oregon State University and was able to add an endorsement to teach Spanish.
I am currently teaching all four levels of high school French and Spanish I at Clear Lake High School in Clear Lake, Iowa. This is my eighteenth year teaching French and fourth year teaching Spanish.
This website features examples of my work while in the MAFLT program as a way to show my growth and achievements as a foreign language teacher.
This is a collection of evidence of what I have learned since beginning the program, including a variety of lesson plans, activities, reflective essays, and presentations I have created for fellow MAFLT students. You will find my philosophy on teaching along with two teaching demonstrations and my credentials. You will also find a final exam I created as evidence of my skills in foreign language assessment, and a couple of intercultural lesson plans as examples of Intercultural evidence. The Technology Evidence page includes a presentation on technology use in the foreign language classroom, a sample module of an online course designed on the Canvas platform, and a presentation on how technology can be used to enhance L2 writing skills. For my Experiential Module, I created curriculum designed to teach French through the use of authentic materials. It is presented through a direct link to my Authentic Materials website along with a teacher guide, visual examples of what is included on the site, and my reflection on the process of completing this project. Lastly, under Other Materials, I have included a video presentation on morphology and syntax, a lesson on language awareness, a presentation of the differences between Canadian and Parisian French, and a lesson on pragmatics.
