Through my coursework in the MAFLT Program and experience in the classroom, my perspective on assessments has become that assessments are an opportunity for students to showcase what they are able to do with the language. In FLT 808: Assessment for Foreign Language Teaching, I dove deeper into assessing progress towards language proficiency through reliable and practical assessments.
Assessment Design Report
Below is the full Assessment Design Report for an assessment tool created in FLT 808: Assessment in Foreign Language Teaching. The assessment tool was designed for my teaching context at time as a summative assessment for the ¿Qué comemos y dónde? (What do we eat and where?) unit. The report details the context for which the assessment tool was designed, the details of each task that makes up the assessment, how the assessment ensures reliability and validity, and how the assessment would be administered.
Assessment Tool Tasks
Below are the three tasks that make up the assessment tool designed for the ¿Qué comemos y dónde? (What do we eat and where?) unit. Students will first create a menu, then participate in a restaurant roleplay activity, and finally write reviews for the restaurants that they visited. The three tasks are designed for students to showcase their reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities across the different tasks.
