Q: How will the four criteria be evaluated?

Criterion A: Knowing and understanding
Students develop factual and conceptual knowledge about individuals and societies.
Criterion B: Investigating
Students develop systematic research skills and processes associated with disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. Students develop successful strategies for investigating independently and in collaboration with others.
Criterion C: Communicating
Students develop skills to organize, document and communicate their learning using a variety of media and presentation formats.
Criterion D: Thinking critically
Students use critical-thinking skills to develop and apply their understanding of individuals and societies and the process of investigation.

Q: What can my child do when they fall behind?

This depends on where they are falling behind. If there were specific things in a summative where the criteria was significantly behind the others (for example, their B criteria was far behind their A and C) that would imply there was something lacking in a specific task that they could not achieve. Looking deeper into the specific ideas is important to show what has gone wrong.

Q: What type of assessment is being used?

Depending on the unit, there will be multiple types of assessments, from longer, project based essays to shorter in class exams. There will be at least one major research project each semester.

For each criteria, there are only a certain number of summatives per semester (and per year.) Some criteria are targeted more often than others (Criterion A and D).
Things needed to be looked at holistically and see the combination of formatives and summatives to see has their been a general improvement in each criteria over the school year.
