Q: How will the four criteria be evaluated?
Criterion A: Investigating
Through the study of art movements or genres and artworks/performances, students come to understand and appreciate the arts. They use their research skills to draw on a range of sources, and they develop information literacy skills to evaluate and select relevant information about the art movement or genre and artworks/performances.
Criterion B: Developing
Students develop ideas through practical exploration, which provides the opportunity for active participation in the art form. Practical exploration requires students to acquire and develop skills/techniques and to experiment with the art form. Students use both practical exploration and knowledge and understanding of art and artworks to purposefully inform artistic intentions and decisions
Criterion C: Creating or performing
The students’ command of skills and techniques is demonstrated through the creation or performance of a finalized artwork that is summatively assessed.
Criterion D: Evaluating
Through reflecting on their work and on themselves, students become more aware of their own artistic development and the role that the arts play in their lives and in the world.

Q: What type of assessment is being used?
Criterion A: Investigating – Research and understanding of artistic contexts.
Criterion B: Developing Skills – Technical skill development.
Criterion C: Creating – The creative process and production of artwork.
Criterion D: Evaluating – Reflection and critique of the artistic process and final piece.
Assessments are both formative and summative, providing a comprehensive evaluation of student progress.
In MDID, we highly encourage students to develop a comprehensive set of learning evidence for Criteria A, B, C, and D through the E-Process Journal on Canva. This journal serves as a digital record of each student’s progress and reflections across all stages of their creative process.
Additionally, students will engage in a series of inquiry-based task assignments. These tasks are designed not only to broaden students' perspectives on their learning interests but also to deepen their understanding of the artistic mindset. Through these assignments, students will gain insight into the philosophy behind aesthetic creation and develop a heightened sensitivity to artistic elements, empowering them to think like artists and appreciate the nuances of creative expression.
Furthermore, we introduce a Metacognitive approach to help students understand and regulate their own thinking and learning processes. This approach encourages young adults to become self-regulated, lifelong learners who can set goals, monitor their progress, and reflect on their development. By cultivating metacognitive skills, students are better equipped to face challenges, adapt to new learning contexts, and take ownership of their learning journey.
Through this combination of structured evidence, inquiry-driven exploration, and metacognitive practice, our approach holistically prepares students for meaningful, independent artistic growth.
