Los Unidades
- Mucho Gusto - In the first unit, we discuss basic introductory phrases to learn how to introduce ourselves and others with basic information such as where we live, where we are from, how old we are, when our birthday is and more. In this unit, we also introduce the global identity part of the year. Each student is assigned a global identity they will research throughout the year. They will get to learn about their city and country and will present this information to their class throughout the year. It is a great way to learn about the language and culture outside of our world here in Mahomet.
- Pasar un rato con amigos - Unit two is all about how we spend our time and what we do with our friends. We talk about activities students enjoy doing and also those they don't like to do. We learn how to offer invitations to others to spend time together and also spend some time learning about types of entertainment.
- La Escuela - School, school, and more school! In this unit, we talk about how we spend our time in school and what we do including what classes we take and what we do in each of those classes. We compare this information to how we spend our free time, on the weekends, from the previous unit. We also spend time looking at schools and classes in other countries to compare to our opportunities here at MS.
- Las comidas - Who doesn't like to talk about food?! In this unit, we talk about typical breakfasts, lunches, and dinners here in the US but also in countries around the world. We also spend a short time talking about gross food combinations we wouldn't like to eat. This unit tends to make us pretty hungry for something delicious! :)
- Mi casa y mi familia - In unit five, we talk about our family and our home. As part of our families, we look at our family tree and those of famous individuals. We talk about who makes up our family and what we are like individually and as a group. We also talk about our home. What are some different types of homes, rooms inside the home, and common items you find in a home and what they are used for. As always, we will also look at housing in other countries and how that differs from us.
- En la ciudad - This unit is a fun way to end Spanish 1. We talk about big cities and what you can do when traveling there - places to go, things to see, how to get around, and more! Towards the end, we focus on Valencia, Spain and talk about what that city has to offer for tourists and what we can do there. In the end, students will make a promotional video for Mahomet as well as present on another city in Spain.
