Email sent by Chris on 3/4/25
Good morning,
My name is Chris McGee, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District. We've begun our curriculum review cycle, focusing on Literacy, to identify future resource needs.
Our district policy mandates piloting resources before adoption. Therefore, we're contacting you to request samples of your Literacy materials for review and to discuss a potential pilot program during the 2025-2026 academic year, with the goal of adoption in 2026-2027.
Could you please provide information on how to obtain samples and the steps required to participate in a pilot?
Thank you for your support of Missouri students.

Hello Mr. McGee,
I work with your Benchmark Local Representative Carla Nieman. Carla asked that I reach out to you regarding Benchmark Advance. I left you a portion of a voicemail (the message cut off before I could finish) but thought I should complete the message via email.
I wanted to let you know that I have been in contact with Carlisha Elam, and I have sent samples of Benchmark Advance to her for grades 3 – 6 and I sent samples to Tanesha Stanciel for grades K – 2.
I also sent a Padlet of information along with digital access and an offer to set-up a Virtual 1-hour presentation.
I have included the information below for your review.
If you have additional questions or would like to discuss our program further, please feel free to reach out to me at any time.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Jeanne
Benchmark Advance provides a purposefully designed framework that connects K -6 students to the world through diverse texts and explicit instruction of literacy skills in service of building knowledge and perspectives over time while supporting high expectations and achievement for every learner. Advance creates a structured pathway to literacy and is aligned with Science of Reading Research. You will also be excited to learn that our authors and consultants on this program (Wiley Blevins, Patty McGee, Peter Afflerbach…) are pedagogical leaders, instructional innovators, and teaching veterans!
Please click here to review our Benchmark Advance Program Padlet. The Padlet includes a great deal of information. I would be happy to go through it with you.

Hi Chris,
Below are the updated codes for the digital trial. It looks like you are all set for digital on our end. You have had access since June 24th. If you still have not been onboarded, I would contact your Tech Coordinator. They should have received the onboarding information from our tech department.
Best,
Jeanne

I recommend utilizing the rubric here from the Reading League for a true Science of Reading program. I also recommend that you take a look at the Knowledge Matters Campaign. They have completed a review of all Knowledge based Science of Reading programs.

Hi Vanessa, I am the MTSS coordinator at Maplewood Richmond Heights School District in St. Louis, MO. I know you have been in contact with my colleague Carlisha Elam and possibly Dr. Chris McGee regarding our interest in pilot materials. I am part of our ELA curriculum team. We have received the K-5 materials, but could we also request Middle School materials 6-8? If you could let me know how we could go about doing that, I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
Hey Lauren,
I put in an additional request last night for more samples for 6-8 to be sent your way. I am hoping those will arrive by the end of the week this week.
What else could I share?
Kindly,
Vanessa
