**Please remind your student(s) to walk their bikes, scooters, etc. on and off of school grounds before riding them for safety reasons. 

**Safety Patrol - Please see the Safety Patrol Schedule  - Please make sure your child is doing their Safety Patrol on their assigned week. See the attached schedule. Reminder that they need to be out and ready by 8:15. If they are going to be absent or at band/orchestra, please find a SUB or let us know so we can find a sub from Spark.

**We have a firm no fidgets, squishies, or toys policy. Please check your child's backpack and ensure they aren't coming to school. We will confiscate them, and they will not be returned until the end of the year.**

**Smart watches must be powered off and placed in your child's backpack during the day.**

LANGUAGE ARTS (Reading/writing/spelling/grammar): - Unit 3 poetry

• Reading: 

• Identify and define characteristics of villanelle poetry

• Use text evidence to make inferences about the poem's meaning

• Summarize a poem's message

• Identify parallel structure in poetry

• Compare/contrast scenes in parallel poetry

• Use text evidence to compare and contrast characters' reactions in a poem

• Writing/Grammar: 

  • Write their own villanelles with a personally created slogan/motto

  • Create an original poem using parallel structure to contrast scenes

  • Create an original poem in which two characters respond differently to the same circumstance

• Word Work (Spelling/Vocabulary): 

  • Vocabulary Words: evident, vast, separated, and transfixed

MATH:

• After fall break, we will take a day or two to review for our District Common Assessment. This assessment is over all of the content we have learned this year in 5th grade math. 

• Our next module after our DCA will be adding and subtracting fractions. 

Unit Studies: 

• We will be looking at how and why Europeans came to the Americas.
