Skilled & Technical Sciences

Mr. Christiansen

MPS Skilled & Technical Sciences (STS) students apply academics and innovative technical problem solving skills that lead to continuing education and valuable employment opportunities.

At Russell Middle School students have the opportunity to explore multiple opportunities in the field of Skilled & Technical Sciences. Construction, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Technology are covered in a variety of different Modules or Missions.  Students grow their ability to design, problem solve, create, and innovate all while choosing topics that interest them.  This can set them on a path for future course work or career exploration.  Skills learned in other areas of the school are put to practical use in a lab setting.

Millard Public Schools is currently transitioning from the name of Industrial Technology to Skilled & Technical Sciences. We feel this better describes our mission of helping students grow into productive citizens.

Many new updates are coming to all of our STS classes.  We look forward to learning and growing in the field of technology with our students.

6th Grade STS

This 6 week class is where you use tools and technology to create projects, learn skills, and explore careers. You choose what you want to learn while solving problems and working with your classmates!

STS 7 and STS 8

In 7th and 8th Grade STS students choose from a variety of 7 day modules to develop technical skill and explore careers. Engineering, electronics, rocketry, physics, home repair, flight technology, metal working, CO2 cars, and engines are just some of the options available for students to choose to explore.  7th and 8th Graders can take one 6 week term.

8th Grade

Engineering and Design

8th Graders can also take our new 6 week Engineering and Design course.  This class will challenge students to solve problems using collaboration, communication, and advanced technology.  3D design, laser engraving, CNC manufacturing, and 3D printing will be key processes in creating a solution to a design problem.  Previous STS course work is recommended.
