Dear Families and Staff,
We are so excited to have been selected as one of the elementary schools that will receive a Teammates Book Vending Machine! We should receive it very soon. We will have drawings from the Gotcha Ticket Bubble Monthly/Quarterly as well as special teacher awards. Students will receive a coin to use from Mrs. Kreager and we will go to the vending machine to pick out a book. Another way a student can earn the coin, for a book from the vending machine, is to be a student in the class with the highest number of books/pages read per month from the library. We are so excited to bring this opportunity to our students at Cather Elementary. Teachers can also submit a student who earned a book from their classroom. So there are many for students to earn a book from the vending machine. Thank you to Teammates for sponsoring Cather in a wonderful way! On September 25th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. we will have our Back to School Picnic. Bring a picnic dinner, outside toys and have a great time with Cather families. We will have Kona Ice on site for sale.
New - The MPS Grading System has changed. Beginning in the fall semester of the 2025-2026 school year, Millard Public Schools will change from a 7-point grading scale (e.g., 93%-100%) to a 10-point grading scale (e.g., 90%-100%) and to begin using A-F markings instead of 1-5.

Nebraska State Statute, #173 NAC 7, requires school districts to provide a health screening to students that are enrolled in our district.
Students in kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, seventh, and tenth grades must be screened for dental, hearing, vision (near and distance), height and weight for the purpose of monitoring status at intervals for all students.
We will begin health screenings at Cather on September 9. If you want to opt your child out of the screenings, please click here to download the paperwork to return to Cather Health Room.
If you have other questions, please contact the health room.

Our health room is in need of some extra clothes to have on hand for students who may need a change during the school day. If you have gently used clothing your child has outgrown, we would love to give them a second life here at school. Donations can be dropped off at the office anytime. Thank you for supporting our students!
Clothing needs:
-Shorts or pants in sizes 7-8 (both boys and girls, no jeans please)
-Underwear in sizes 5+ (boys)
Cather families! Check here each week for library and technology updates and helpful hints and tips! I am excited for the new school year and all of the great things are going to accomplish together! If you have any technology or library related questions, please do not hesitate to email me at sjcollins@mpsomaha.org.
Remember when you could buy a book for the library on your child's birthday? Well, now you can donate a book ANY time during the year!
We have changed our Birthday Book Club to the Plant-a-Book Club*, where we will grow our library one book at a time! A donation form will come home with your student during the month listed on the flyer, but feel free to use it whenever it works best for your family.
Thank you for helping us to grow our library collection and plant the seeds of good reading!
*This is not a club that meets before or after school, but a club you become a part of just by giving a donation to the library!
Please email Mr. Upcraft tdupcraft@mpsomaha.org with any questions.
Please contact your student's classroom teacher if you are a mother figure and interested in volunteering to support students and staff!
