They used direction observation and experimentation to study the sexual response cycle. The information learned has been used to diagnosis and treat sexual disorders and dysfunctions. Their famous publications were the "Human Sexual Response" and "Human Sexual Inadequacy."
Alfred Kinsey
He used the survey method to ask people about their sexual behaviors. His studies also lead him to created the Kinsey Scale which is used in research to describe a person's sexual orientation based on their experience or response at a given time.
William James
American psychologist who believed our awareness of physiological response leads to our experience of emotion. This is the same William James who brought psychology to America.
Carl Lange
He proposed a theory very similar to James' saying that awareness of physiological responses leads to experiences of emotion. His theory is known as the James-Lange Theory of Emotion.
Walter Cannon & Philip Bard
Their research started by experimenting with the causes of hunger. Was is physical, psychological or both? Through their studies they determined that an event triggers BOTH emotional and physiological responses simultaneously. There theory is known as the Cannon- Bard Theory of Emotion.
Stanley Schachter
He stated that, in order to experience an emotion, a person must be physically aroused and know what emotion they are experiencing before they actually feel it. His theory is called the Schachter Two-Factor Theory of Emotion.
Hans Seyle
He discovered General Adaptation Syndrome. This is a series of bodily reactions to prolonged stress and include: alarm, resistance and exhaustion.
Paul Ekman
He has done extensive research on Universal expression of emotions. He developed the research that suggested there are 7 universal emotions that all of us around the globe express with similar facial expressions. He is also known for his research on micro expressions and helps educate FBI and law officials with his techniques.
