On Monday, and possibly Tuesday, students will present their party planning results. They will share the details of their party plans including the location, decorations, and menu they chose, and whether they stayed within budget or went over budget.
Activities for the remainder of the week may include some of the following:
"Which One Doesn't Belong?" - Students are shown a picture of four numbers, shapes, or items. In a small group, they share which one they think doesn't belong and why. As a class, we share someone else's idea and reasoning. This activity helps students develop communication, listening, and reasoning skills.
"Esti-Mystery" - "Each image invites students to wonder what number is represented by the image. As you click through each Esti-Mystery, clues will appear that will allow the students to use math concepts to narrow the set of possibilities to a small set of numbers. In the end, the students will need to call upon their estimation skills to solve the mystery and find the missing number." https://stevewyborney.com/2018/11/esti-mysteries-estimation-meets-math-mysteries/
"Number Talks" - Number talks provide opportunities to practice mental math and computation skills. Students share different ways to get to a given number using any or all of the operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Using order of operations extends the activity. Based on ideas from the book Number Talks by Sherry Parrish.
We encourage students to practice basic multiplication facts over the summer. Knowing basic math facts fluently and automatically (automaticity) allows students to focus on problem-solving and more complex computations.
Thank you for all your support this past year.
Be well and have a great summer!
