Every year, 12 News hosts a turkey drive, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. We have been participating in Turkey Tuesday since 2012. We meet at our local Bashas' at 6:30 P.M ready to search for at least 10 turkeys to donate to St. Vincent De Paul, which happens to have a donation bin right outside of our local Bashas'.
Hacktivate is hosted by the City of Mesa. This is a student think-tank for adult problems. From the opioid epidemic, to homelessness in our city, Mesa students discussed our city issues for two days.
Our Stud Co took six students. In the end, we gave a 10 min presentation, to a group of officials from the City of Mesa.
The members who attended were offered internships from the mayor while contributing to the issues of our society.
Another RM Stud Co tradition is to volunteer at mile nine of the Phoenix Marathon. We hand out water to 30,000 the runners.
While we're there, we make it a contest by splitting into team water and team Gatorade and competing for the most spirited team. It may be freezing, but we love it!
In our lovely state of Arizona, all AASC member schools collectively donate to our state-wide chosen charity and this year our charity is JDRF.
This year Red Mountain Student Council gave $500 to JDRF.
