Reflection:
As a school counselor in training (SCIT) in an elementary school, I find it essential to model moral character and integrity through my words and actions. Young students, colleagues, families, and all stakeholders observe and learn from my behavior. Therefore, I strive to demonstrate ethical decision-making, honesty, and consistency in my interactions with others.
One way I embody moral character and integrity is by treating all students with fairness and respect. I make it a priority to ensure that every child feels valued, supported, and heard. This includes maintaining confidentiality when appropriate, advocating for students' well-being, and fostering an inclusive environment. By demonstrating empathy and compassion, I set an example of ethical behavior that students can emulate.
Additionally, I engage in transparent and open communication to earn the trust of colleagues, families, and all stakeholders. Trust is built through consistency, reliability, and authenticity. When colleagues and families see that I follow through on commitments and uphold ethical standards, they are more likely to view me as a dependable resource. Admitting mistakes, learning from them, and continuously striving for personal and professional growth set a powerful example for students and colleagues.
