Polar Log

Overview:

Consistent and clear communication - between staff, students, and family/guardians - is critically important to everything we do. The POLAR Log is a central online database where staff can record everything, from calls home to behavior interventions. This will then become a reference and a record to be utilized in future conversations with staff, parents/guardians, and students.

Use the Polar Log to:

Enter Behavior Concerns:

The log is the primary place to record behavioral incidents, interventions tried, and the follow-ups to behaviors. This is helpful not only for teachers to determine the best practice when working with a students, but also useful for deans, support staff, and the advisory teacher when communicating with the student and their parents/guardian about an incident.

Record Parent/Guardian Contact:

One of the core responsibilities of the advisor is to communicate with a student’s parents/guardians. These communications should occur on a regular basis and should be recorded in the log in order to provide a record of contact with home. These communications can be anything from a text, to a phone call, to an in person meeting with a parent/guardian.

Make a Counseling Staff Referral:

Like at many schools, our counselors perform a vital role in supporting students’ academic and social-emotional needs. However at North, due to the high degree of trauma present in our student population, the skill and ability of our counselors are even more critical to the success of our students. Referring students to a counselor is a useful step if you believe a student could use support beyond what you can offer as a classroom teacher. Therefore, “the log” is the place where you can record your concern or reason for referral, and then notify a counselor.
