At South High School, our Special Education Department is dedicated to supporting every student’s unique strengths and learning needs. We provide both direct instruction and individualized support to help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Students receiving special education services can be part of any of South’s programs—Team 1, Team 2, or All Nations—so they can learn within a community that feels right for them.
Our Citywide Program offers specialized support for students whose disabilities may make school success more challenging and require a higher level of support (also knows as Federal Setting 3). These students spend the majority of their day in special education classes. Within this program, we provide services for students with:
Autism
Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD)
Life Skills needs
Emotional or Behavioral (EB) needs
Placement in a Citywide Program is determined by the district’s special education office.
The Resource Program supports students who have Individual Education Plans (IEPs) but are not part of a Citywide Program (also knows as Federal Setting 1 or 2). These students spend the majority of their day in general education classes. The Resource program provides extra help, accommodations, and guidance so students can thrive in their classes and build confidence in their learning.
At South, we believe in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every student is valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
