The Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD) program at South High School provides individualized, hands-on support for students who benefit from more intensive special education services. This program serves students who qualify under Minnesota’s criteria for Developmental Cognitive Disability (DCD) or Severely Multiply Impaired (SMI).
Our caring team focuses on helping students grow in meaningful ways—both inside and outside the classroom. Lessons emphasize practical life skills such as communication, daily living, community involvement, recreation, and work readiness.
Above all, the DCD program is built around each student’s strengths, helping them gain confidence, build independence, and develop skills they can use throughout their lives.
