EDIA Committee

The mission of the EDIA Committee is to support and advocate for students and families by identifying and addressing racial, cultural and socio-economic disparities in District policies and practices. EDIA Committee members serve as representatives of their community and organizations as well as in the best interest of all MPS students and families by centering marginalized voices. The EDIA Committee believes that every voice is needed, valuable, and equally important. Additionally, we seek to amplify the voices that have been historically silenced by the educational system including MPS.

The purpose of the EDIA Committee is to partner with Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) to serve as advocates on behalf of the community to hold MPS accountable for identifying and examining inequities, with emphasis on, but not limited to, racial and cultural inequities, district- wide, in MPS policies, practices, programs, and budgets that significantly impact student learning and resource allocation.

The Committee exists to safeguard the integrity and fidelity of the Full EDIA process (through a District facilitated reflection process which informs how to improve policies, practices, programs, and budgets and its implementation to increase student achievement and outcomes) and ensures that it is equitable.

MPS will utilize all methods available, such as policy analysis, evaluation, and research to support the process. Community engagement with stakeholders is an essential part of the EDIA work.

The EDIA Committee envisions an equitable, integrated, and inclusive environment that supports all students’ personal and educational learning and growth.
