Child Find

Mineral Point Unified School District is required to locate, identify, and evaluate all children, with disabilities, including children with disabilities attending private schools in the school district, and homeless children. The process of locating, identifying, and evaluating children with disabilities is known as child find.

Child find activities include a child development screening, held two times per year for children age 2 ½ to 3 ½. This developmental screening is used to identify children who may require additional assessment, programming, or monitoring. These decisions are made based on an informal assessment of the child, a background history, and a discussion with the parent. Most children who attend are not referred for further testing. Sometimes parents are given suggestions and encouraged to return for the next scheduled screening.

For preschoolers, it is a nice introduction to Mineral Point Elementary.  If you reside within the Mineral Point School District and you do not receive an invitation, please call the elementary office at 608-987-0710 to schedule an appointment for your child.
