The 8th grade lens is impact. At the beginning of the year, I understood this lens to mean the impact we have on other students and myself and my actions. Now to me impact means the effect we have on other students. It also means the impact we leave to make the school a better place. I think impact is Mountain Middle's 8th grade lens because they want their 8th graders to have a positive effect on the school and other students. What previous life experiences have allowed me to make an impact on this school would be the impact of the other students I’ve seen before me. I think the last 8th grade class made a positive impact and helped make the school a better place. In the future, I plan on making an impact with other students, my teachers, my school, and community by having a positive outlook on life, doing the best that I can everyday and not giving up even when things get challenging.
For my inspiring community member, I picked Courtney. She shows all the habits of heart and mind. At the beginning of the year, I tried to be more like her by respecting my peers, having integrity when doing anything, putting effort into everything I did, and refining all of my work. My hope was by the end of this year, to put even more effort into everything I did, like Courtney. When working on all my exhibitions, I tried to put in as much effort as Courtney does. She is really inspiring and that is why I picked her.
At the beginning of the year, I demonstrated ownership by completing tasks on time and doing the tasks without having to be reminded. I understood ownership to mean doing the work you were supposed to do and doing it well. By the end of the year, I hoped to be prepared and ready to work and be well informed on the project topic. I think I showed the most ownership on the rocket science exhibition because for that project, I carried most of the weight. One of my group members didn’t really do their work and I had to do it for them. It showed ownership because I would ask her to do her work but she wouldn’t so I had to do most of it myself.
At the beginning of the year, I demonstrated being helpful by giving people useful feedback so they could improve their work. I understood being helpful to mean being supportive to people and helping them out to make their work better. By the end of the year, I hoped to help the team solve problems and manage conflicts. I think a time I was helpful to my other team members would be the chemical reaction exhibition. We helped each other with our chemical reaction and with our speech. I think I was the most helpful when doing our speech because I helped my group members stay on task and write their part.
