School Days

After graduating from high school, Genie attended Hunter College (New York), where she was nearly kicked out for poor grades, particularly in English and German. The kindness of the dean and her excellent grades in Math and Biology, allowed her to stay enrolled.

Two summers in a row, Genie went to “Bug Camp” - biological fieldwork courses at the University of Michigan. Genie loved the courses and especially being able to go out into nature to observe animals in their environment.

Finishing her bachelor’s degree in just 3 years, Genie then began work as a chemist in a plastics research laboratory. Working more than 50 hours a week and using the money to pay for night classes at New York University, she earned her Master’s degree in Zoology.
