Faculty Bio: Anne Landis joined the Moses Brown faculty in 2006 as a member of the Humanities department. Dedicated to fostering a deep curiosity about history, literature, and culture, she has served as the Head of the Upper School Humanities department. Known for her collaborative approach to education, Anne has spent her tenure guiding high school students through critical reading and analytical thinking, helping them connect historical concepts to the modern world.

Description
A graceful, fast-growing deciduous tree with a wide, spreading habit and a rounded, vase-shaped canopy.
Leaves: Alternate, simple, 2–5 inches long, oval to oblong, with finely serrated edges; dark green in summer, turning yellow to bronze in fall.
Bark: Smooth and gray-brown when young, featuring prominent horizontal lenticels (pores); becomes slightly scaly or fissured with age.
Twigs: Slender, reddish-brown, and smooth.
Flowers: March–April; spectacular clusters of 5-petaled, fragrant, white to pale pink blossoms that appear before the leaves.
Fruits: Small, round, black drupes (cherries) appearing in early summer; bitter and primarily eaten by birds.
