Social Enterprises

Continuing the Cline Legacy

During his life, Morgan Cline invested in a number of projects in Appanoose County to preserve historic buildings, deliver needed services, and attract economic growth. The Morgan E. Cline Foundation is pleased to continue operating two social enterprises Cline started during his lifetime: The Continental Hotel and The Majestic Theater. Each provides unique social benefits to the community that would not be possible without the foundation's support.

The Continental Hotel and Lucile's

The Continental Hotel is southern Iowa’s premier boutique hotel and traces its history to 1866. Its restaurant, Lucile's, was recognized for having one of Iowa's Top 10 burgers in 2024.

The Majestic Theater

This historic movie theater and event venue offers steeply discounted nonprofit rates to local organizations and partners with our local community theater group to bring affordable and educational entertainment to our community.

The Shoppes at Bradley Hall: Now Drake Hall

For 20 years, Morgan Cline and the foundation supported The Shoppes at Bradley Hall as a high-quality retail store in the Bradley mansion. Given significant changes in the retail environment during that time and the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, the foundation was forced to shutter the store permanently in July 2020.

The foundation sold the beautiful property--which over the course of 120 years has been a private home, nursing home, community college, school administration building, and gift shop--in 2021. The new owners have redubbed the property Drake Hall and have made it a private home and event space. Their backgrounds in architecture and art have been extremely useful as they have continued the restoration work Morgan began, while educating our community on the building and its history.
