Continuing the Cline Legacy

During his life, Morgan Cline invested in a number of projects in Appanoose County to preserve historic buildings, deliver needed services, and attract economic growth. His approach was to restore a building, stand up a business , and then transition ownership for sustainable future operations. The Foundation has continued this model with most of the properties Cline left to it in his will.

The Morgan E. Cline Foundation is pleased to continue operating The Continental Hotel as part of its charitable programing. The Continental Hotel provides unique social benefits to the community that would not be possible without the foundation's support. This aligns with the foundation's giving areas of Economic Development and Historic Preservation.

The Continental Hotel and Lucile's

The Continental Hotel is southern Iowa’s premier boutique hotel and traces its history to 1866. Its restaurant, Lucile's, was recognized for having one of Iowa's Top 10 burgers in 2024.
