The media center is the hub of the school. With thousands of holdings, both fiction and non-fiction, it is the educational and creative center of Hilldale. All educators know that reading and a love of literature help students improve their other academic areas. When a child reads, he or she improves their spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. So the next time your children want to watch TV, tell them to pick up a book instead!

Please watch this very energizing version of the Black Eyed Peas' hit song "I Got A Feeling" that promotes reading books and literacy. It was created by students and staff at Ocoee Middle School in Florida. They originally got the idea from Oprah, when her producers secretly helped 20,000 fans "flash mob" as the real Black Eyed Peas sang the song to promote the beginning of her 2009 season. Enjoy!
The Chromebooks provide students with an opportunity to integrate the latest technologies into the media curriculum. Today, students must be proficient in a multitude of technological skills. In the world of the Internet, students must analyze their sources of information more than ever before. They must know how to search for information quickly and wisely. Increasingly, students are using Web 2.0 tools to communicate. These skills and more will be needed to compete with their peers in school, to find employment in a global job market that grows more competitive each day, and to survive in the world beyond school as technology grows by leaps and bounds. For these reasons, students will be using the technology that is at our disposal to create innovative projects that tie into the media curriculum.

I have been a resident of Montville Township since I was a kid, and I am a proud alumnus of Valley View, Lazar, and MTHS. I have been teaching at Hilldale School since 1996. From 1996-2002, I taught 3rd grade; from 2002-2007, I taught 4th grade; and I've been teaching media classes since the 2007-2008 school year.
I love teaching and getting to know all the students in Hilldale, and I'm looking forward to a fun and exciting school year!
