Here are some guidelines for keeping our media books in great condition:
Keep books away from food or drinks. If you need a snack, put your book away while you're eating and drinking.
Keep in mind that many books are ruined when they're put in backpacks with water bottles and lunchboxes. Please carry your water bottles or lunchboxes, and keep your media books in your backpacks.
Keep books dry at all times. This means no reading in the bathroom or near water!
Wash and dry hands before reading a book. No one likes dirty pages!
Use a bookmark or a piece of scrap paper for saving your place in a book.
Never use a pencil or some other object for a bookmark. Books should close completely when using a bookmark!
Do not bend pages to save your spot. This is called dog-earring, and it damages pages!
Do not turn a book over on the pages to save your place. It should not look like a tent or the letter "A". This will break the spine!
Keep books away from babies or pets. They don't know any better, and can easily ruin books. If they do, it's YOUR fault, not theirs. Make sure you put your media books in a safe spot each week.
Do not take your media books outside. If you want to read a book outside, choose a book from home. Dirt, water, pollen, and mud can easily damage media books, especially if you forget them outside!
Keep pencils and crayons away from your books. Remember - no writing, coloring, or doing art projects near your books!
Turn pages slowly and from the top. Turning too quickly can rip pages. When students turn pages from the bottom, they tend to pull the pages up and then they rip.
Do not pull labels or stickers off the books. These are used to tell Mr. Jones where the books belong, to tell kids about the books' genres, and to scan books out of the media center.
Report all damage to Mr. Jones when you find it. Please don't try to fix books yourself. And whatever you do, please do not lie about damaging or losing a book. Always be honest!
BOOK BORROWING PERMISSION FORM: All students must have a parent/guardian fill out this form before they are allowed to check out books. Thank you for your understanding.
