Dr. Herfindahl is a fierce advocate for his students. He works tirelessly to provide his students with the best opportunity to learn and discover, and enhances their education by reinforcing the selflessness of participation in choir. Singing in among the most vulnerable of all activities that humans engage in, and through this vulnerability, true self discovery can happen.
Dr. Herfindahl has dedicated his life to helping students realize the full power of their potential, and music is the medium for this realization. Dr. Herfindahl has watched his student go on to become CEO's, successful performers, educators, committed laborers, social media influencers, and sought after actors.
Dr. Herfindahl is a strong advocate for educational progressivism and has presented on the role of education in the age of the internet. He utilizes this philosophy in all of his teaching to the betterment of his students. Another fundamental belief of Dr. Herfindahl is the selection of great and powerful repertoire. He is continuously seeking out opportunities to perform great works as he has grown to know that the ensemble always rises to the occasion. In his teaching, Dr. Herfindahl puts great emphasis on the family construct of a choir. Choirs under the direction of Dr. Herfindahl achieve great things because the strive forward as a family. Nearly all of the students who have graduated from the Monticello High School Choirs still return each December to perform David Dickau's "If Music Be The Food of Love" in a combined choir performance that always envokes great emotion.
