Career Planning

It is important to start explorating different career paths before deciding where to go after high school. Start by exploring here at Davis by being involved in many of our programs, clubs, sports, and different class offerings.

Some students may have a solid idea of what career to choose, others have a general idea, and still others are truly undecided.

It is important to remember that it is okay to be unsure - in fact, 25% of students apply to colleges undecided and more than half of students change their majors at some point during their college career!

*After you explore career interests and options, you are able to match those results to related majors and begin your search for colleges/programs that offer the education needed to pursue your chosen field.

Career Technical Education

CTE provides a sequence of courses that are in integrated with knowledge and technical skills in specific career pathways. Students have the opportunity to learn and prepare for their post secondary educational goals. Here at Davis we offer career pathways in 9 different industry sectors:

Agriculture mechanics, manufacturing, &wood | Agriculture Business | Health Careers | Business | Public Safety Animal Science | Agriculture Science | Culinary | Horticulture

MJC offers many CTE programs that are less expensive than trade/vocational schools. These programs offer students to learn hands-on & prepare to go straight into the workforce.

Exploring College/Career Majors

There are many college and career program search tools. Here are a few that are great to start off with:

Colleges that Consider Demonstrated Interest

The measure that admissions officers use to hone in on candidates who are likely to enroll is something called demonstrated interest. Ways for applicants to demonstrate interest include: physically visiting campus, emailing an admission officer, attending an admissions event in your area, connecting with the university on social media, and writing an exceptionally detailed "Why this College?" essay. College Transitions is happy to provide a list of 360+ schools and the level of importance assigned to this increasingly-important admissions factor.
