The exciting world of aerospace comes alive through the Flight and Space (FS) unit. Students become engineers as they design, prototype, and test models to learn about the science of flight and what it takes to travel and live in space. They solve real-world aviation and space challenges and plan a mission to Mars.
ONE TRIMESTER
7th Grade Required Elective
This is a one-trimester course for seventh grade students. In this course, students will get an overview of many technology tools that they can use to communicate ideas and produce work digitally. Topics include: Digital Art & Design, Safe Online Surfing, Digital Citizenship, 3D Design, Digital Storytelling, Coding & Computer Science, Design & Animation and Game Design.
FULL YEAR
7th or 8th Grade Elective
This course is designed to engage students in an inquiry setting and allow them to participate in activities in which they will design, collaborate, evaluate, present, and reevaluate using the engineering design process. Each unit of this course will involve the STEM mindset, SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING and MATH. Course activities include circuits & electricity, advanced computer coding with Makey Makeys, building pinball machines, roller coasters, wind turbines, and solar ovens. The end of the year takes a look into environmental STEM and how we can solve local environmental problems. The STEM class also functions as the MSMS Green Team and spearheads efforts to use STEM to keep our building and Muskegon GREEN!

7th or 8th Grade Elective
In Digital Media, students will learn to produce and create works of digital media ranging from graphic design, podcasts, and videos as well as the equipment that accompanies each form of media. Journalistic writing, web design, photography and advanced photo editing will also be taught. All students participate in the creation of the MSMS Yearbook as well.
