FULL YEAR, 1 or 2 Hour Block
7th or 8th Grade Elective
The Trades Academy was designed to support students academically, while providing them with opportunities to experience different career paths in the skilled trades. Placement in this course is based on teacher recommendation, the review of academic performance, and/or student course selection. Students will earn a letter grade for this course. In 7th grade there is a one hour option that solely focuses on trades. In 8th grade there is both a one and two hour option. The two hour option will count as both elective and include a Guided Academics support hour. During the academic support time, students will be given study and work time to improve their grades in core classes, focusing on responsibility, organization, and communication with teachers. During the second portion of Trades Academy, students will work on trades skill development, project creation, and service learning. In years past, students have created things like picnic tables and sold them, designed and built longboards, and put nautical fencing up in the school parking lot. Students also take field trips to the Career Tech Center, and different area businesses to explore the trades.
