When exploring a new analytical approach it is important to refer back to primary sources wherever possible, to get the best appreciation for the original intention behind how the method was intended to applied. Once you understand the original description of the method and the principles underpinning it, adaptations may be possible, as long as they remain consistent with the underlying principles governing the method.
This series introduces three pattern recognition analysis methods commonly referred to in applied health research - content analysis, framework analysis and reflexive thematic analysis.
Take a few minutes to write:
Consider your research question and the outcome you are expecting to achieve – which data analysis method do you think best aligns with your research aim – content, framework or thematic analysis?
What skills and experience do you have in any of these methods?
What about your project supervisor/s?
Will you need to seek additional guidance about how to decide which analysis method is appropriate or how it is applied?
