Shuqun Primary embarked on the reading culture in 2015. Besides integrating reading activities into our daily language and leveraging home-school partnership to support our reading efforts, the school has been advocating Reading for Life. Over these years, we have been improving on our learning spaces to make it vibrant and conducive to encourage a love for reading.
The concourse is one such place that is being redesigned to make it a vibrant place for learning. It takes the theme of a forest and coincidentally, it is aligned to our 95th anniversary theme of Shu Qun - 树群 (a cluster of trees). If we were to examine the different layers in a forest and compare it with the different levels in the concourse, it comprises the roots and the ground, the trunk portion (which is the 2nd floor) and finally the canopy (the 3rd floor).
We want to continue to emphasise the importance of reading and how reading is fundamental and hence is the root to success in learning. Hence the ground floor has a reading treehouse and this place is one of the places where we would carry out our reading activities. Our 2nd floor is the middle portion of the forest. Our initial plan was to create a space for our students to explore and try out OE and high elements but since knowing about our MOE Kindergarten plans, we have put the ideas on hold to accommodate the changes due to MK. The 3rd floor is where the canopy and fruits of our teachers and students' labour are. Our school has been championing art education and we have participated in many art events. You will get to see our students' art work exhibited there. We really hope to nurture the strengths in every child and that each student will be motivated and passionate in what they do. Eventually, they will spread their wings when they fly off to explore the world.
Work in progress......
