Primary 6

Students will learn about civilisations and the legacies of ancient Sumer, Egypt, Greece and Rome.

This is a teacher-facilitated resource for Chapter 1 of the Social Studies Primary 6A textbook of the 2020 syllabus. This resource is designed to support students who require auditory and visual support to read the textbook. Teachers are encouraged to assign this resource only to students who require additional support in reading the Social Studies textbook.

Students will learn about the five features of ancient civilisations. They will also learn to describe examples of each feature in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome.

Students will learn to identify the features of civilisations, explain why most ancient civilisations began along rivers and identify the achievements of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome.

Students will be able to identify the legacies and achievements of ancient Sumer - the Sumerian government, the invention of wheels for vehicles, the Sumerian lunar calendar and the unique friendship between King Gilgamesh and Enkidu.

Students will learn about the achievements of ancient Sumer.

Students will learn to identify the achievements of ancient Egypt during Hatshepsut’s reign.

Students will learn about the legacies of the ancient Greek civilisation

Students will learn about the achievements of the ancient Roman civilisation and the legacies of ancient Rome.

Students will use the Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) cycle to investigate how public buildings and structures from ancient civilisations still influence the way some present-day buildings are designed.

Students will learn about some of the legacies of the civilisations of the Indian subcontinent that continue to influence our lives today.

Students will learn about the use of spices and their influence on our lives today.

Students will learn why Indian Dance is considered a legacy of the Indian subcontinent.

This quiz aims to consolidate students' learning from Chapters 1 and 2 of the Primary 6A Social Studies textbook.
