Quizizz : Play To Learn

Account required but it's free with basic features. Can be used with BYOD, iPad and laptop.

WHAT IS IT?

Quizizz is similar to Kahoot, with a few major differences.

Kahoot is teacher-directed, it displays the questions and answers on the teacher’s device; whereas Quizizz is student-directed, it displays all the information on the student’s device. This feature really encourages self-directed learning as students can go through the questions at their own pace (ownership of learning). In addition, students can attempt the quiz multiple times and try to beat their previous score (self‐management and self‐monitoring). Teachers can get a detailed report and do remediation if necessary.

Furthermore, Quizizz is fun, colourful and students need only a game code to access.

HOW CAN YOU USE IT IN THE CLASSROOM?

  • It can be used as digital entrance/exit cards.

Use it at the beginning of lesson to test for prior knowledge and/or use it after lessons to assess learning.

  • It can be done live or as homework.

  • It can be used as formative assessment.

The detailed report provided is useful for teachers to see if remediation is needed and if so, the teacher can decide if remediation should be done as a class or to individuals.
