Performing Arts-Based Learning (PABL) is a core learning experience in the lower secondary Music curriculum, providing every student with the opportunity to experience a bespoke live music performance in a professional arts and cultural venue and to support Queenstownians in the discovery of their interests and passions, and to explore the post-secondary courses.

The objectives of this learning journey are as follows:

1.      exposed to Singaporean artists/arts group and/or local works, including those by Cultural Medallion and Young Artist Award recipients,

2.      develop an appreciation of the connections between classroom learning and Singapore’s professional arts scene, and forge a deeper sense of identity, community, and connection with Singapore’s arts and cultural heritage.

Songsmith: Singapore Songs and Songwriting

The secondary Two cohort students listened to the music created by local composers from the 1960s till current times. Description of the ways composers/performers use elements of music to express music ideas were simplified to a fun and entertaining experience. Understanding the development of popular music in Singapore and appreciating the cultural influences that have shaped this music have definitely enlightened the students. Queenstown Secondary School was also mentioned as there was a popular band “The Quest” by the school in the 1960s.
