welcome to Queenstown Secondary School ART and MUSIC Microsite
Over two years, Queenstownians embark on a vibrant musical journey, exploring core and advanced topics such as the Kodály syllabus, diverse music genres, and live music jamming. Each experience deepens their understanding, sparks creativity, and reinforces prior learning through hands-on music-making.
In Secondary 3, selected students join the Music Talent Programme, where they compose original music and develop a strong sense of ownership and pride. This builds confidence, critical thinking, and creative expression.
Even after graduation, the skills gained, such as perseverance, self-discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the human organised sound, continue to benefit them in both personal and professional aspects of life.
At Queenstown Secondary School, the ECA framework in music—Experience, Concept, and Application—engages our diverse learners through hands-on activities like singing, playing, and moving to music. Students explore key concepts such as rhythm and pitch, then apply their understanding through performing or composing. This student-centered method supports different learning styles, fostering active participation, deeper understanding, and meaningful musical expression.
Music isn’t just about playing or singing—it’s about making choices, interpreting meaning, and expressing identity, making it a powerful platform for artistic thinking from a young age. Music and artistic thinking help us understand ourselves, express emotions, and connect with others. They support mental well-being, enhance creativity, and develop critical thinking. Through shared experiences, they build empathy and cultural appreciation. Ultimately, music and artistic thinking give our lives meaning, purpose, and connection—they are essential, not just enrichment.
