welcome to Queenstown Secondary School ART and MUSIC Microsite
Over the course of 2 or 5 years of art learning, Queenstownians will engage with similar topics. Each time they revisit these projects or Artwork, their discussions and creative processes will become more complex, building on and reinforcing what they have learned before.
Inter-weaving curriculum, often referred to as “curriculum weaving,” is a design approach that integrates various components of the curriculum by connecting and intertwining themes, concepts, skills, and content across different subject areas. It emphasizes making meaningful connections between disciplines and learning experiences to create more authentic, relevant, and engaging learning for students.
Curriculum weaving moves beyond traditional siloed teaching methods by combining knowledge, competencies, values, and real-world contexts. It allows for interdisciplinary learning where students develop capabilities such as inquiry, communication, creativity, and problem-solving by integrating ideas and skills. This approach supports authentic learning experiences that help students apply knowledge in situated contexts, fostering deeper understanding and the ability to innovate and connect information across domains. Which is in line with 21st Competencies Framework.
Examples of inter weaving curriculum
At Secondary 1, students engage in the interdisciplinary project “Muffin Marvels,” which integrates Art, Design and Technology, Nutritional Food Science, and Music, fostering creativity across multiple disciplines.
In Secondary 2, students collaborate with Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) and Education and Career Guidance (ECG) to design and develop a comprehensive portfolio. This portfolio documents their personal growth, artistic journey, and readiness for future academic or career pathways.
From Secondary 3 to 5, students focus on the conceptualization, development, and consolidation of their portfolios, compiling a curated collection of art pieces and artefacts that showcase their evolving artistic skills and creative expression.
