GUZHENG ENSEMBLE

Northland Secondary School’s Guzheng Ensemble pursues musical excellence while nurturing care, encouragement and teamwork. Guided by the motto, “Play as Musicians, Play as Family”, every rehearsal and performance develops our students’ artistry while strengthening their bonds. This year, the ensemble performed at the Chinese New Year Concert and presented its mini-concert, Echoes by the Pond, where students showcased diverse musical genres in small ensembles, building confidence, deepening friendships and celebrating their progress with family and friends. Beyond the school, our students were honoured to perform as guest artistes at the opening of Sengkang General Hospital’s You Sparkle Awards, expressing appreciation to healthcare workers through music and specially designed stickers as part of a Values in Action project. The ensemble also took on more technically demanding repertoire at the PAssionArts Concert and collaborated with other performing arts groups, further enhancing their musicianship and stage presence. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our student leaders for their dedicated service and invaluable contributions to the ensemble.

INDIAN DANCE

Northland Indian Dance nurtures a love for dance while deepening students’ appreciation of Indian cultural heritage and its diverse dance forms. Throughout the year, our dedicated dancers showcased their talent and passion within and beyond the school, presenting a vibrant traditional folk dance during our Pongal celebrations and a graceful modern Bollywood piece for visitors from Hong Kong as part of our Racial Harmony celebrations. Their commitment, perseverance and many hours of practice culminated in a captivating performance of the energetic piece, “Dholida”, at PassionArts 2026, held at the Republic Polytechnic auditorium, where all twelve dancers impressed the audience with their confidence, vitality and stage presence.

MALAY DANCE

Northland Malay Dance CCA, Nova Lestari, continued to embody the values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience throughout 2026, with members demonstrating commitment and discipline as they balanced their academic and co-curricular pursuits. Their dedication, teamwork and perseverance culminated in an impressive second runners-up finish at the Mutiara Tari Malay Dance Competition 2026. Members also showcased their artistry at PassionArts 2026, produced a Hari Raya performance video and presented a cultural welcome for visiting students from Hong Kong. Through these enriching experiences, they deepened their appreciation of Malay dance while developing confidence, leadership and teamwork, proudly representing Northland Secondary School.

MULTI-CULTURAL ARTISTE CLUB (MCAC)

Northland Multi-Cultural Artiste Club (MCAC) brings together students who share a passion for street dance, providing an energetic platform to build fitness, core stability, confidence and creative self-expression. Through engaging training sessions, members forge meaningful friendships, develop leadership skills and learn to set goals, persevere and fulfil their potential as they master challenging choreography and prepare for the stage. Their dedication is strengthened through rigorous training for the Singapore Youth Festival and external showcases such as the World Supremacy Battlegrounds and FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup, as well as opportunities to choreograph and perform at school events, including the Chinese New Year Concert, Teachers’ Day celebrations and PassionArts. These experiences nurture resilient, expressive and collaborative dancers while creating lasting memories and strong bonds.

SYMPHONIC BAND

Northland Symphonic Band nurtures confident and versatile musicians while fostering character, leadership and a lifelong love for music. Through performances at key school and national events, including the school’s National Day Parade, the biennial PassionArts concert and the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation, members strengthen their technical proficiency, artistry and discipline as a cohesive ensemble. Learning journeys to orchestral performances further broaden their exposure and deepen their appreciation of the many facets of music. Guided by the motto, “One Band, One Sound”, the band continues to pursue musical excellence while instilling the values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience in every member.

PIPE BAND AND DRUMS

Northland Pipe Band and Drums is a distinctive and vibrant CCA that celebrates the rich tradition of Scottish pipe music through stirring performances. Beyond developing musical proficiency, the band nurtures discipline, teamwork and a strong sense of pride in its members. Guided by dedicated instructors and supported through peer mentoring, students take ownership of their learning and pursue excellence at local and regional Pipe Band Championships, as well as community events. Grounded in the belief that every student can learn music, the CCA enables members to grow in both skill and character while upholding high standards and leaving a lasting impression wherever they perform.
