The STEAM certification is an internal certification by JPJC STEAM Committee. The purpose of the certification is to encourage and recognise students for their participation in STEAM related enrichment programmes (from JC1 term 2 to JC2 term 2 period), in a progressive/tiered approach. Students can work towards a certification by participating in STEAM/Innovation enrichment activities. Participation in such enrichment activities could help them develop 21st century competencies (e.g. adaptive and inventive thinking). We strongly encourage students to use their time productively in their JPJC journey for #InfiniteGrowth and to contribute to the larger community #InfinitePossibilities #InfiniteLove.
You will document your involvement in these activities in your e-portfolio (guide as linked) and also to submit your involvement record via this form https://form.gov.sg/67a16b1edbe89599f56aae8f .
You can earn yourself a STEAM Certification (Bronze, Silver or Gold) depending on your tier of involvement.
The Bronze STEAM Certification should be the minimum attainment and is a pre-requisite for the other tiers of certification.
You will be assigned a compulsory SLS STEAM Module on Urban Design and Architecture (launched in Term 2) that is to be completed over the course of Term 2 (during SDL days), at your own pace.
Urban Design and Architecture serves as a relevant and natural context for interdisciplinary thinking and integration of STEAM/Innovation.
Complete SLS STEAM Module on urban design and architecture by end of Jun holidays to earn Bronze.
The Silver STEAM Certification is for students who are keen to further develop STEAM/Research/Innovation skills and dispositions.
This is done through self-initiated research/innovation project or taking part in STEAM/Innovation related competitions. There will be platforms to showcase the projects during college events (e.g. STEAM/Innovation Fest) for others to learn from you.
Head over to the research and innovation projects sub-page for more guidance.
Meet the requirement for Bronze and take part in at least one research/innovation competition would earn you a Silver Certification.
The Gold STEAM Certification is for students who excel in STEAM skills and dispositions and/or are leading efforts to develop these skills in their peers.
These would include the STEAM Interest Group students, who will plan, organise and conduct STEAM-related workshops and events for the cohort. Head over to the STEAM interest group sub-page to find out more!
Meet the requirement for Silver and completing a formal research programme and/or involvement in STEAM Interest Group would earn you a Gold certification.
1) Is this STEAM Certification accredited by MOE?
STEAM certification is an internal certification by JPJC STEAM Committee.
2) What are the enrichment activities that I need to participate in to get a STEAM certification?
There are various kinds of enrichment activities from self-initiated learning on SLS (or other online platforms), attending talks, embarking on research/innovation projects, taking part in workshops/competitions or even organising workshops for other students.
These STEAM related enrichment activities could be external (e.g. workshops/symposium/competitions organised by other institutions) or internal (e.g. workshops organised by the JPJC STEAM Interest Group, see events page).
Participation in these enrichment programmes can be counted towards a STEAM certification, and the tier of certification will be accorded depending on the nature of the activities (see above for info).
3) What is the time involvement in participating for enrichment activities?
Time involvement would vary between activities. These are enrichment activities that take place beyond the formal timetabled lessons, and students can make use of the fortnightly self directed learning (SDL) days to embark on these activities. There are no timetabled lessons on these SDL days, which are craved out for students to embark on self directed learning on their interest areas.
4) [IMPT] Must I get the Bronze Certification before I can aim for the Silver Certification?
Yes, the certification is awarded in a progressive manner. You will need to get the Bronze Certification (i.e. complete SLS module) before your involvement in relevant enrichments can be counted towards Silver Certification.
5) When would I receive my STEAM certificate?
At the end of Term 2 of JC2. In the form of an e-cert and badge.
6) I have participated in external enrichment programmes on my own. Can these be counted towards the certification?
Yes, these can be counted towards the certification as long as they fulfill the descriptors as stated above. You are required to provide evidence of your participation for these activities (see Q7).
7) How do I provide evidence of my participation in STEAM/Innovation related activities?
You can provide evidence via KM portal (CCA Certificate) by lodging a report and filling in the necessary. Alternatively, it is good to make it a habit to submit a post-event reflection for the STEAM Committee to note your involvement. You would have to complete this FormSG (Post STEAM enrichment reflection form): https://form.gov.sg/67a16b1edbe89599f56aae8f
8) Is the STEAM Certification compulsory?
No, it is optional. But you are strongly encouraged to take part in these enrichment activities, for your #infiniteGrowth :)
