Welcome!
Our NLC was started in September 2021 and we have concluded the learning in August 2022. Our NLC aims to develop teachers’ pedagogical confidence in deepening concepts in Weather and Climate. We invited A-level teachers to share their knowledge about this topic with the participants. Our team met once a term for a total of 4 sessions.
Who are we?
Weather and climate is very complex and abstract to our students. We are a group of teachers who are genuinely interested to find out how we can make the learning on Weather and Climate more engaging and accessible to our students. We come from a range of background and we collaborate in to understand the topic deeply by engaging expert others such as the teacher leaders from the A-levels, other secondary school teachers and Master Teacher. We examined how we could teach the topic in a more coherent manner by redesign the curriculum using big ideas and key questions. We also learnt how to resequence learning so that students can keep building on their prior knowledge and extend their learning. We hope to bring the learning back to our schools.
Highlights of our journey
There is rich learning from one another through the sharing of knowledge, experiences and opinions. They provided me with new perspectives because my perspective can be narrow just within my own school. Also, knowledgeable others (LT - Grace, MTT - Melanie) has really been helpful and generous in sharing and these have helped me deepen my content mastery and interest in the topic.
Teaching is a concerted effort in helping students make meaning of what they are learning. As teachers, we should strive to support students in distilling broader conceptual ideas, instead of mindless internalization of random facts.

Members will apply the learning to their lessons but as many schools will not be choosing this topic for the new syllabus, we have decided to conclude this run.
