Our school has chosen Chromebook and digital tools in Google Workspace for a seamless learning experience in school and outside school.
The following were taken into consideration when choosing the device:
Functionality
PLD runs on Chrome OS with fast boot-up time. PLD includes a stylus and it can be used as a laptop, tablet, stand or tent.
Reliability
It is a web-based device with up to 10 hr battery life. Its background system will update and install latest security patches.
Value
The enhanced device bundle comes with
3-year insurance and 3-year warranty
2 repairs or 1 replacement claim
The purchase of Personal Learning Device (PLD) will be pre-installed with Device Management Application (DMA) before PLDs can be used in school to support teaching & learning. It ensures that the child’s learning is uninterrupted and focused. This will complement the digital literacy efforts in school.
The DMA can:
Remotely deploy teaching and learning applications as well as security patches
Enable teachers to monitor and control the students’ screens
Restrict apps and websites accessiblity
Limit screen time
The school will be collecting parents’ email addresses for the setting up of the parents’ DMA accounts (one email address per PLD). More information will be provided at a later date.
The cost of the device bundle can be paid using your child’s Edusave account, after setting aside provision for payment of second-tier miscellaneous fees.
To ensure the affordability of devices, there was a one-time Edusave top-up of $200 in 2020 and $200 in May 2021 to support the purchase of the device.
This is on top of the annual $290 credited into the Edusave account for Secondary School students.
To find out more about Edusave Balance, parents can call hotline at 6260 0777 (automated phone enquiry system)
subsidies are available even if there is insufficient Edusave balance.
The cash out-of-pocket will be $0.
