More Information about Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)

1. My child is in the school choir in primary school but he is now interested and is considering joining CTSS School Band as his CCA - will CTSS Band accept students with no prior experience in the band in primary school?

A student without music background or prior experience in band can still opt for the CCA during the Orientation Week. As part of the CCA option exercise, students will be informed to put in four CCAs they are interested in. Also, all Sec 1 students will go through an aptitude exercise in the first week of Term 1 to help them better understand the CCAs which they can develop and grow in.

2. Do students get their choice of CCA and what is the selection process for CCA? How does the school allocate students to CCAs? Is it based on the students’ choices? What happens if the CCA is over-subscribed?

Students can choose from a variety of about 20 CCAs, including Physical Sports, Uniformed Groups, Visual and Performing Arts and Clubs & Societies.

  • Physical Sports : Badminton (Boys), Basketball (Boys), Football (Boys), Netball (Girls), ODAC, Volleyball (Boys), Wushu

  • Uniformed Groups : Girl Guides, National Cadet Corp, National Civil Defence Cadet Corps, National Police Cadet Corps, Scouts

  • Visual and Performing Arts : Art Club, Band - Symphonic, Dance - Chinese (Girls), Dance - Indian (Girls), Dance - Malay, Drama - English, Ensemble – Guzheng

  • Clubs & Societies : Multimedia Services

Students will be informed to put in four CCA options they are interested in. Thereafter, they will be allocated one of their four CCA options, depending on the vacancies available in the CCA.

3. How demanding is the CCA commitment in CTSS?

The commitment is at least once a week and more commonly, twice a week for every CCA.

4.What are the school hours like? Are the CCA days concurrent for all groups?

All students must report to school by 7.30 am. The end time on Tuesdays and Fridays are 1.55pm and 12.45pm respectively. For Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, the end time will vary between 1.55pm and 3.05pm.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, end times will be further extended by 15 to 30 minutes as dismissals of students will be carried out in a staggered manner so as to minimise crowding in public areas surrounding the school.

School ends by 6.30 pm on days when they have to attend CCAs (up to three times a week, days depending on select CCAs). Students will generally have their CCAs on Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

5. If my child was from the Choir in her primary school, what is her chance of being selected for the Uniformed Groups?

Your child can opt for a Uniformed Group CCA as part of the four options he/she will put in during the CCA option exercise. Students will be allocated one of their four CCA options, depending on the vacancies available in the CCA.

6. What are CTSS's efforts in encouraging development of aesthetics in the students, not just academically, but also in the CCAs such as Art Club?

CTSS has a vibrant aesthetic programme through the curriculum (e.g. Art and Music) as well as through school-wide programmes. Please refer to https://sites.google.com/moe.edu.sg/ctss-e-open-house-2020/clementeen-experience/aesthetics-programme?authuser=0 for more information.

7. What is the selection criteria for Volleyball Boys? If the child has no prior experience in Volleyball in his primary school, what are the chances for him to be selected into Volleyball in secondary school? Also, is height one of the criteria for selection?

If your child has great interest in the sport, he should put Volleyball as his choice among four options for CCA. Height is an advantage but it is not the main criterion. We have students in the school team who are not exceptionally tall.

8. Will the students have trials for different CCAs or do the students just choose the CCA that they are interested in?

There will be CCA Experiences for the Secondary 1 students to go through during the first 3 days of school. Students will be given four CCA options to indicate their interests. More information will be shared to posted Secondary 1 students and parents during the Secondary 1 Registration in December 2020.

9. Does the school support students who participate in national school games / sports that the school does not offer?

The school will support students to participate in sports at national level or sport academies that the school does not offer. Please contact our SH/PE and CCA when your child joins our school next year.

10. I would like to enquire on the Direct School Admission (DSA) options for CTSS. I read from the website that there is a CCA leadership option, please elaborate on this? I’m enquiring as my daughter holds leadership positions in her Brownies CCA as well as being a prefect in her school.
