To nurture Clementeens as scientifically literate persons who are able to problem solve using scientific reasoning and thinking skills, communicate effectively and work collaboratively with other members of the global community, and harness technology for lifelong learning.
Science-in-Action (Science Mentorship Programme) - SiA-SMP is one of the ways our Science Department seeks to stretch the potential of our scientifically literate Clementeen. It aims not only to instruct the intellect, but also to form the character and train the will. Students experience what life is as a real scientist. Being at the forefront of research means students collaborate, think creatively and critically while actively communicating their ideas to try their hand at solving challenging yet exciting problems.
Science-in-Action piqued my curiosity and has expanded my interest in Science and research. The programme has provided opportunities for me to grow as a person. I applied thinking, questioning and collaborative skills learnt in project work during the course of my research project. This experience will follow me throughout my life. It has fostered courage and confidence within me. I am grateful for the opportunity.
The Science-in-Action programme has helped to kindle my passion for research and helping others. Through the challenges I face at the lab, I feel like I have developed great resilience in the face of adversity. The programme has given me new meaning and opportunities in the field of Biology and it has sparked my curiosity to delve deeper into my research topic. I am grateful for the opportunity.
SiA-SMP is more than just science, lab work and competitions to me. It has been a tightly knitted family of passionate individuals coming together to learn, work together, and forge friendships across several generations 🙂
SiA SMP exposed me to a whole new field of knowledge and collaboration beyond school work. Through the research work, I was able to appreciate that regardless of the tangible results, it is the learning process that matters. I was able to develop more than the hard skills but also soft skills such as adaptability. More than just the personal growth, I also learned to grow with my teammates. SiA SMP being group work in nature, fostered strong bonds between my peers and I, such that we are still in touch, years after we graduate and gone on our separate paths. By learning how to collaborate and accommodate, we are essentially learning how to cope in the future workforce.
SiA-SMP has allowed me to experience labwork and gain knowledge beyond our textbook. From this invaluable experience, I realised my passion for Molecular Biology. In addition, SiA-SMP has allowed me to improve myself and form friendships across the different batches. I'm certainly grateful to be part of this SiA-SMP family.
