1. SGLCD sharing - Genial.ly

While preparing for your upcoming iLearn lessons, I would like to share one ICT tool at SG Learning Designers Circle (SGLCD), Genial.ly, that you can use to complement your Blended Learning (BL) lessons.

In this lesson, Genial.ly is used to create interactive content and infographic. The lesson enhances student learning through engaging content and interactivity.

The teacher uses the interactive component and infographic interface of Genial.ly to provide an authentic “tour experiences” for her students to explore the different types of building around the world as she taught the topic《世界那么大》:不同的房子. When students click on the interactive icon, a new window containing a video will appear. Students will explore these videos to learn more about the content that are linked to the passages extracted from the textbook. The teacher is also able to embed a quiz in Genial.ly to test for student understanding.

The link to her lesson can be found at https://tinyurl.com/3jedte4a

This interactivity allows students to explore and learn on their own in a more engaging way. With such features, we can use this ICT tool to support the “conceptual changes” and “scaffolding” in KAT. Furthermore, students can learn beyond the classroom as we can embed the interactive slides created using Genial.ly in SLS.

Do login to FB to request for sharing of her lesson if you are keen on how she enhances student learning through engaging content and interactivity using Genial.ly.

A video on this tool is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwLZhEAxyE0 (start at 1:15 min)

2. ICT Tool sharing

IdeaBoardz

To help you promote meaningful ICT-enriched blended learning lessons, I would like to share an ICT tool, IdeaBoardz that provides as an alternative for Padlet. IdeaBoardz has a clean and easy to use interface where it allows teams to collectively brainstorm, gather inputs and reflect.

Students write their thoughts on virtual Ideaz instead of using actual sticky notes during class discussion. As students engage in the discussion on IdeaBoardz, they can merge two or more ideaz into a single note if they are similar. Students can also like or, “thumbs up” individual ideaz if they agree with the ideaz posted by their peers.

Two videos on this tool are available at

1.     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4iFnSW-RbM

2.     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDxUJrBlXE4

3. GooseChase EDU

Thinking about organising a scavenger hunt for your classes to build relationships among peers? Fret not! GooseChase is an online platform that helps you organize and run real-world scavenger hunts. It is also available on mobile devices in both the iPhone and Android app stores. Teachers then add missions to their game. Each mission is a scavenger hunt clue, which comes in three types: photo / video, text, or location. Students use an iOS or Android app as they complete the scavenger hunt.

With the free educator version of GooseChase, you can have one live game with up to five teams participating at once. Once you build out the game with a variety of missions, it’s very simple to duplicate it to use with multiple classes.

Be sure to sign up for Goosechase Edu (https://www.goosechase.com/edu/) and not the regular Goosechase.

Two videos on this tool are available at

4 .MoocNote

MoocNote is a free tool for adding time-stamped comments / notes, links, and questions to videos. All of your notes link back to the appropriate place in the videos and are collected into one central place which you can access anytime, anywhere.

MoocNote does not create a copy of the video, but store only the video URL. So, if the video is no longer accessible, then MoocNote will not be able to play it. However, you can still access your notes.

The following video sources are supported:

Hope the sharing above helps. Do feel free to explore and try out the various tool(s).

“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” – David Warlick

Firstly, have you checked out the new SLS? Click here to explore its new features. It is now also more user-friendly and accessible through your phone. Do check out more details in the poster below.

Secondly, I'd like to bring you along to venture into the wonders of Google Earth!

Do check out this video which is a quick breakdown on the use of Google Earth: Voyager in our classrooms. There are many different worlds to explore simply with a click of a button. One that really caught my attention was this! Learn and explore the origins of the fairy tales we grew up with.

Lastly, check out this cool website called Flippity!

It redesigns your Excel sheets into different activities that you can use in the classroom. The website comes with a demonstration, instructions and template so it is user-friendly. Increase your engagement in class via a range of activities such as those shown below. What's great is that you can even share it on Google classroom

Hope this sparks ideas for the planning of your future lessons!

We hope you enjoyed the first edition of ICT for teaching and learning. Today comes part 2 of my sharing!

Instead of telling you how to motivate the students, let us try motivating you, the teacher today! This is a stack of resources of insights on effective lessons that have worked that will possibly inspire you on your journey of fulfillment in education!

With the onset of technology, e-exams have gained popularity, coerced or not. And despite the myriad of resources online, timestamps, signatures and background pictures have proven it hard to use online media for e-exam setting.

So this is a short video that explains how we can remove the background of an image, for use in PowerPoint.

Hope the sharing has been useful!

1st up, a short recap on E-pedagogy: e-Pedagogy (see left) is the practice of teaching with technology for active learning that creates a participatory, connected, and reflective classroom to nurture the future-ready learner.

From the SG learning Designers Circle, this blog is a further break down of E-pedagogy:

Taken directly from the author himself: As you read through the explanation, some of you might realize that there is clear correspondence with the 3 psychological needs of Self-Determination theory (SDT), namely autonomy, relatedness, and competence.

I would also like to take the opportunity to introduce google jambox!

How it will help you in your google meet:

- Engaging Lesson  (both Remote Teaching / Face-to-Face lessons)

- as Interactive Whiteboard that can allow students’ participations

- To Boost student collaboration and engagement

-  save work to the drive instantly and automatically,

- use the easy-to-read handwriting (with ‘pen, marker, highlighter or brush’)

- Insert ‘post-it’ notes easily

- Make adjustments (change colors, moving and rotating)

- Allow Students to Edit and participate in your lesson

- Ask Question

- Quickly pull in images from a Google search,

- Insert Auto-shapes,

- Easily insert text boxes that are resizable and rotatable.

- Insert Attractive backgrounds

Hope the sharing has been useful!
