Problem: Obesity Among Teenagers

One of the global health problems faced by many countries, especially among teenagers is obesity. Misra and Dhurandhar (2019) reported that nearly 32 percent of the 24,339 teenagers between 10 and 18 years old whom they analyzed have abnormal weight and the results are appalling.

Obesity causes serious illnesses and health problems such as mood disturbance, hypertension, aging, diabetes, stroke and even death. World Health Organisation (2016) recommends general actions to help preventing the childhood obesity which are healthy eating and being physically active.

Can obesity be overcomed?

Theme 2: CELL BIOLOGY

Problem: A Busy Factory

Products like chocolate will be produced inside a factory using a specific machine until it comes to a good quality product. It consists of many departments and each department has their functions.

Can you relate the endomembrane system and plasma membrane system by using a busy factory as an analogy?

Can you explain how substances such as proteins are transported from the nucleus to outside of the cell?

Theme 3: genetic and heridity

Problem: Inheritance

Ahmad was involved in an accident and suffered severe bleeding. He needs a type O blood transfusion. However, the type O blood supply is not enough. Ahmad's parents want to donate their blood but Ahmad cannot accept because his father has blood type A while his mother has blood type B. Why does Ahmad have a different blood type from his parents?

Do you know your blood type? Do you know who from your family members can donate their blood to you or anyone that needs it in emergency cases?

Theme 4: ENVIROMENTAL SCIENCE

Problem: Endangered species

As of 2021, of the 120,372 species currently tracked by the IUCN, there are 8,404 species that are considered to be Critically Endangered. On 23 November 2019, Malaysia lost its only surviving Sumatran rhinoceros. Additionally, the Malayan tiger, the only tiger subspecies inhabiting the Malay peninsula, is now on the verge of extinction – less than 200 individuals are left in the wild, and sharply declining. Currently, one of the main threats to Malaysian wildlife is habitat loss due to deforestation for palm oil plantations, agriculture, and road building
