Modern Classrooms Project Mentor Manual
Educators whose Expert Mentor applications have been accepted move onto Mentor Academy to:
★ Learn to support and empower educators as a Modern Classroom Mentor.
★ Practice supporting their first Modern Classroom mentee.
★ Experience the online course from the mentee's perspective.
Mentor Academy is a blended, self-paced, and mastery-based experience.
Mentors-in-Training will receive a stipend after completion.
Qualifying educators must be credentialed DMCEs to submit the Expert Mentor application and provide general MCP background information, a narrative about their desire and willingness to support mentees, as well as practice submission feedback.
The application is scored by a trained committee member and approved applicants move onto Mentor Academy. Applications not receiving a passing score are returned and applicants invited to reapply in six months.
Unlike the Distinguished Modern Classroom Educator credential application, rather than a portfolio submission, the Expert Mentor application application features open-ended prompts. Therefore, the submission template is designed without a step-by-step walkthrough in order to capture organic responses.
Expert Mentor applications are accepted on a rolling basis. However, because Mentor Academy is offered at specific times throughout the year, it is possible to experience a waiting period between the acceptance and cohort start dates.
Mentor Academy is self-paced and typically spans 6 weeks. MITs must complete the approximately 12 hours of training, including onboarding exercises by the specified date in order to be eligible to mentor during the upcoming Virtual Mentorship Program session.
