Central Library
The National Reading Day 2023 was celebrated on Friday, 30th June 2023, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the faculty reading hall at the central library. All the committee members of the library, faculty, and students of the college attended the program.
The program starts with the prayer song and lighting of the kuthuvilakku by the chief guests. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Anbazhagan, Professor & Coordinator of the Library Advisory Committee. He invited all the gathering in the program and spoke about the importance of National Reading Day. He added that the day is celebrated in remembrance of the death anniversary of PN Panicker, who is known as the ‘Father of the Library Movement’ in Kerala. The inaugural address was given by Dr. K. V. Rajasekar, Dean, MMCHRI who headed the program and spoke about the significance of reading, reminding us of the value of reading books even in an era dominated by the internet.
The keynote address was given by Dr. Parimala Prof & Head Pharmacology & IQAC Coordinator; she pointed out that the importance of reading was mentioned in Thirukkural in the ancient days.
The PowerPoint presentation delivered by Dr. C. Velmurugan, Chief Librarian, regarding the theme “Knimbus single window platform for students about the remote access of various e-resources like ClinicalKey, DELNET, EBSCO, ProQuest, SCOPUS, and J-Gate plus subscribed by the management to enrich the knowledge of the users. During the event, two types of events were conducted to grace the occasion. One is essay writing and elocution competition.
The chief guest of the program distributed the certificates and prizes for the winners of the essay writing and elocution competition conducted on 28th June 2023 for National Reading Day. A vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Yuvaraj, a library committee member and student of the 3rd year. He thanked all the gathering of the program and thanked the supporting staff—those who contributed their vital support for organizing the program.
The program ended with the national anthem.
