THE LANGUAGE

The official language is Bahasa Malaysia, although English is widely spoken. The alphabet is the same as English, therefore, the street signs and names are all easily translated. There are several Chinese dialects used including Cantonese, Mandarin, Hokkien and Hakka while Indians speak Tamil and Hindi. Regionally, there are cultural differences and the level of English can vary from place to place.
