By foot

Mont Kiara is extremely walkable, with dedicated sidewalks and pedestrian walkways. Walking is the single most popular mode of transportation around Mont Kiara. Malls, restaurants, gyms, and more are extremely close by.

By car or motorbike/motorcycle

Many people choose between buying a personal car or a motorbike/motorcycle to get around Mont'Kiara and Kuala Lumpur. 

Imported cars are taxed heavily in Malaysia, making them more expensive. For cost-effectiveness, it is best to buying a locally manufactured car from Perodua or Proton, which have recently modernized their offerings, is best. 

Motorcycles/motorbikes, on the other hand, are quite common amongst staff and a good alternative for the daily grocery run. 

Motorcycles/motorbikes can be picked up for as little as MYR 2,000. Please ensure that you get a 1) title of ownership and a 2) storage box for groceries and personal items, and that you 3) Wear a government-compliant helmet.

By Grab car

Like Uber or Lyft, this rideshare mobile app allows you to book a car or taxi to and from pre-arranged/pre-defined locations with pre-arranged prices. 

When booking a Grab ride, people select the "GrabCar Economy" option as these are regular unmarked cars (not branded taxis). More premium options or larger vehicles can be chosen, too.

The great thing about Grab as someone new to Mont'Kiara is that the app allows you to pay for rides using cash instead of incurring currency conversion charges on your overseas credit card. After you obtain a local credit or debit card, you will be able to pay for Grab transport services using these payment methods.

By bus

There are buses from Mont'Kiara to many destinations around Kuala Lumpur. In Kuala Lumpur, RapidKL buses are the most popular choice (https://myrapid.com.my/bus-train/rapid-kl/bus/).

By metro

You may travel around Kuala Lumpur by train, such as by LRT (https://myrapid.com.my/bus-train/rapid-kl/lrt/) or MRT  (https://www.mymrt.com.my/projects/travel-with-mrt/). The Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) system in Kuala Lumpur are networks of electric train lines that connect various parts of the city. It's an affordable, fast, and eco-friendly mode of transportation designed to help you avoid the KL traffic.

Airport Transport (Grab and the KLIA Ekspres Train)

Booking a Grab ride to and from the  Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is the most affordable and convenient way to get to the airport. This is especially true when traveling as a couple or with family.  

However, if you are cannot obtain a Grab ride to the airport or there is significant traffic (often the case during early mornings, rush hour, or peak holiday periods), you may opt to take the KLIA Ekspres train. 

The KLIA Ekspres train is located in the KL Sentral neighborhood, around a 15 minute car ride from Mont' Kiara. To use the train, you will need to book a Grab car ride from Mont' Kiara to the train station, then proceed to the airport using the KLIA Ekspres.
